Dr. Pearson became frustrated when noticing that many patients were not showing up for pre-natal care appointments. From the OB-GYN’s perspective, these appointments – which usually take five minutes – are non-events for healthy patients. From the patients’ perspective, however, the appointments can be anything but routine, especially for women who are between 28 and 40 weeks pregnant.
For them, taking time off from work, driving 30 minutes to a doctor’s office, sitting in the waiting room, undergoing an exam and then returning to work can be extremely disruptive. It’s not surprising, then, that many of these women skip their appointments.
