Snowplow, the market leader in data creation, recently announced that it had raised USD 40 million in Series B funding led by global venture capital firm NEA. NEA has previously invested in companies like Databricks, Cloudflare, and DataRobot. Current Snowplow investors Atlantic Bridge and MMC have also provided continued to support the company. The firm has raised USD 55 million to date. With the additional funding this time, Snowplow plans to expand its workforce, enhance support for a wide range of data types, and scale globally.
Today, more than 10,000 businesses, including Strava and Software.com, utilize Snowplow to generate data from their data warehouse, lake, or steam in real-time to fuel disruptive AI and advanced analytics. With Snowplow, data teams can access rich behavioral data that has been collected, modelled, and tailored for the data application they are building, allowing them to concentrate on creating value rather than searching for, purifying, and organizing data for analysis.
There is a rising requirement for high-quality, well-structured, predictive, and well-understood data to power these algorithms as businesses use AI and ML in more areas of their operations. Traditional methods, where businesses reuse existing data, have proven costly and unstable. Snowplow was established to take a novel approach to this problem by empowering businesses to purposefully produce better data for AI and advanced analytics, resulting in higher AI performance, accelerated time to value, and greater compliance.
“Snowplow was built to solve the need for predictive, behavioral data to drive decisions and insights in a privacy-conscious and scalable way,” said Snowplow CEO and Co-Founder Alex Dean. “Snowplow places the power of behavioral data into the hands of the teams that need it most, directly into their existing data infrastructure.”
Snowplow’s uniqueness lies in the fact that it delivers data directly into a customer’s Data Warehouse or Lakehouse, combining it with data from external systems to create a Universal Data Language, which is tailored to each organization and minimizes the time spent on data preparation. It also improves performance for machine learning and analytics use cases noticeably. The Behavioral Data Platform from Snowplow combines all of this information.
Common use cases for Snowplow include:
Advanced Analytics for modelling consumer behavior across various points of engagement, such as web, mobile, point of sale, sales data, and customer support, are common Snowplow use cases. These datasets offer businesses the most accurate view of consumer behavior and marketing attribution. Compared to conventional analytics systems like Google Analytics, Snowplow’s pipeline deployment, first-party tracking, and anonymous tracking strategies offer several advantages.
Customer 360 and Composable CDP – The Composable CDP’s fundamental foundation is the development of behavioral data, which offers a platform to enable mass personalization and a single customer view. In contrast to off-the-shelf CDPs, composable CDPs are constructed using best-in-class data tooling and are based on the warehouse or lake that serves as a company’s single source of truth.
AI/ML Model Creation – Eliminating data-wrangling increases the efficiency of AI/ML model creation. To train data models, Snowplow delivers real-time, AI-ready data to your lake or warehouse. There is a complete guarantee that the data is in the highly anticipated format at a constant degree of granularity to produce accurate model predictions because every data item is checked upfront against a user-defined schema.
Experts speak
“AI is one of the largest opportunities in technology, but in order to maximize the return on AI and advanced analytics initiatives, organizations need better data that they have full control over,” said Tony Florence, Managing General Partner, Technology, NEA. “Snowplow is pioneering the Data Creation category with a developer-first platform that allows any company to create and consume AI-ready data as if they were Amazon or Netflix.”
Alex Sharata, Senior Associate, NEA, added: “We were impressed by Snowplow’s traction with the open-source community as well as the company’s ability to deliver value to large enterprise customers, such as Autotrader, Flickr, Strava, and Zenefits, among others. We’re thrilled to partner with Alex Dean, Yali Sassoon, and the Snowplow team as they continue to create and operationalize data at scale for teams across the globe.”
