A new Microsoft Teams app for Windows and Mac has just been made generally available, according to Microsoft Corp. It promises faster speeds and less memory usage.
The new app, released in March, was redesigned entirely in response to user feedback rather than being an update of the older apps. The aim was to deliver a swifter, more user-friendly, and adaptable experience, facilitating time-saving and enhanced collaboration. The company claims it’s now up to twice as fast as the previous version, with a 50% reduction in memory usage.
Nearly all features in the new Teams have full feature parity, including breakout rooms, call queues, public switched telephone network calling, custom line-of-business apps, third-party apps, and contextual search in chats and channels. The new app also improves fundamentals in areas like dependability, security, and information technology management to make sure the new app complies with changing organizational requirements.
The new app also introduces significant features such as facilitating cross-tenant communication and collaboration, extending beyond organizational boundaries across various tenants and accounts. While multitenant organizations allow each customer to have a separate instance of the software application they share with other customers, multitenant, multi-account organizations enable each customer to have multiple accounts within the same application.
Artificial intelligence is now necessary for any new release, and the updated Teams app is no exception. The brand-new application is referred to as “the foundation for next-generation AI experiences, such as Microsoft Copilot.”
Teams’ Copilot assists users by helping them catch up on discussions, conduct more productive meetings, and consolidate everything in a unified interface. In Teams chat, Copilot also expedites users’ comprehension of conversations, offering a quick overview of key points, action items, and decisions, eliminating the need to scroll through lengthy threads.
Customers who want the new Microsoft Teams app can upgrade easily and don’t need to migrate. Users of the old Teams will soon receive an automatic upgrade to the new Teams. If you don’t want to wait, you can install the new Microsoft Teams by selecting it from the menu in the previous app’s upper left-hand corner.
